Our first outing in Antarctica

We arrived January 1 to beautiful calm seas and cruised between Anvers Island and Brabant Island, cruising into Chiriguano Bay a little after noon. We had wonderful animal sightings, chinstrap and gentle penguins, a couple humpback whales and some even saw an Antarctic fur seal!

In this area, there was no satellite connection for the ship’s internet, and of course no cell service so our photos are a day late, but before we leave our location today, Jan 2, I will post today’s excursions too

Petal to the metal

Capt Maggie is flying across the Drake, a rather smooth ride, all 4 engines full speed ahead, making up time.

More than half way by 18 hours, here is our location at 24 hours
The seas have a gentle swell, no white caps!

Dining on Polaris

There are many venues for food, all excellent!

Most often we grab breakfast and lunch, sometimes dinner here in the World Cafe

The Grill has huge steaks, including tomahawk. Swordfish lobster, etc!

Opposite the Grill is the Sushi bar

The restaurant is the main venue for dinner, with an area for a private party

Manfredi’s is the Italian restaurant. Dinner last night

Great breakfasts, recipes from Torstein Hagen’s grandmother

Around Viking Polaris

Just afew of the corners, shelters. Lounges and spaces on the new Vikings Polaris

There are many lovely spots and I will add pictures as we discover them. First is the Explorers Lounge, 2 decks at the bow

This is the area called expedition central

The HIDE , a hidden spot at deck 1 in the bow. We will post pictures of the view when we hit the Drake a well.
