More of our Nairobi sightseeing

We visited the giraffe centre next! What a fun thing to feed them! We saw also some warthogs, Puma for all you Lion King fans!

Along the road we also saw a Troup of Baboons! How cool that was!

Our first full day in Nairobi

We are all here! Cheryl arrived late last night, and at 9 AM, we began our adventure with the Nairobi National Park Elephant orphanage.

The first little one we met was the 11 month old baby black Rhino! Rana

Next 12 of the littlest of the 27 little elephants came out. All the elephants are under the age of about 3. being cared for by the team there, all orphaned, found in snares, malnutrition, mired in mud, or standing by their dead mothers. All of them would have perished without this care. First 12 of the youngest were fed by bottle and then some branches on the ground.

This behavior is called dusting and is to keep flies or the sun off

Next, the larger 15 came roaring out, trumpeting for breakfast!

You can tell these are a little older and bolder

Each elephant is known by name from the place when they were found. They are taken at about 3 and a half or 4 years old to a wild herd area and introduced slowly to the group. When they are accepted, they will stay the night. Otherwise, they return to the keeper’s protection naturally. The elephant chooses when to leave. It is a wonderful program of preservation since 1977

Arizona

We have set aside a day of rest after the long travel day. We are staying at one of our time share locations in Sedona. Just relaxing, napping, eating wonderful dinner, and enjoying the scenery

Creekside Bistro shared dishes, Ahi Nachos, Crab cake, lamb lollipops, and peach cobbler!

Had a great visit in Prescott with my cousin Laura and her husband Mark in their new home!

Nebraska again….

Resting up at my daughter Liz’s house. I just soaked up the flowers and birds in their yard! But first, the dogs had to greet Walker properly!

Other garden flowers

The wildflowers are all “pollenaters”, planted in the nearby ‘corners’ of the fields, for the bees!

And the birds!

From Colorado, toward home

Today our travels took us thru Lizard Head Pass on the San Juan Skyway, across the 4 corners states of Colorado, New Mexico (for about 6 seconds) Arizona and Utah! We passed thru Monument Valley and then down across Arizona thru Oak Creek Canyon to Sedona. Here is a taste of our scenery! First, our SW journey out of Colorado

We passed just briefly thru the corner of New Mexico, into the Navajo Nation, where the corners of 4 states converge, we drove in all 4 today! Colorado, NM, Arizona and Utah! We took a little divergence to pass thru Monument Valley. See if you can catch Forrest Gump on the road!

We traveled across the state of AZ, down thru Oak Creek Canyon to Sedona for a 2 night rest.

The adventure changes now

Our fabulous Alaska Adventure is over.   We are back in the lower 48, after a couple full days of travel,  6-7 hour drive down the state of Alaska on Hwy 3, Fairbanks to Anchorage.

We stayed at a great hotel close to ANC , the Lakefront. The lobby was filled with Alaskan animals!

It was set on Lake Hood where the flight planes take off and land

Thursday was a full day of flights,  Anchorage to Seattle,  then Seattle to Denver.

We arrived late in the evening, so we stayed the night near the airport.  My daughter,  Liz, drove down to pick us up and drive us today to Nebraska.

But… after a couple days relaxing with the family,  we will be back on the road.   Stay tuned.

Fairbanks adventures

Our outings for the day! While The guys went Arctic Grayling fishing. I visited a couple spots near town.

Success! Walker has caught 4 Arctic Grayling, so far! And they aren’t done yet!

There is a viewing place near Fairbanks where you can see a section of the Alaska pipeline!

The devices beside the pipeline, keep it warm enough to flow

There is also a migratory bird viewing area! Few birds there at the moment, and at the far side of the field. When I went, it was misting a bit too so sorry for the quality of the pictures. There are ducks, Canada geese and a few Sandhill Cranes!
